James Prince is an American music executive, promoter, CEO of Houston-based Rap-A-Lot, and manager of boxer Andre Ward and previously Floyd Mayweather Jr. He was born on October 31, 1965, in Fifth Ward, Houston, Texas, United States as James L. Smith (also referred to as J.Lamont Prince or J. Prince).

J. Prince, who for 35 years has worked to promote Houston’s rap scene and rap artists, is now working to promote underprivileged neighborhoods and communities. J. Prince recently broke ground on a community center he is building in his old 5th Ward neighborhood that will help young children, teens, as well as adults, to excel more in their lives.

“Talking about something is one thing, but having something to offer is another,” J. Prince said. “We promote abstinence first for those that are strong enough not to have sex. I wasn’t one of those. And we can’t really just tell them not to have sex, so we are telling them to ‘strap it up'”

On June 7, the year 2010, J Prince was honored alongside Master P, Jermaine Dupri, Timbaland, along with Slick Rick at the VH1 7th annual Hip Hop Honors Awards for both his creative contributions as well as his philanthropic ventures.

On February 13, the year 2015, J released the diss track “Courtesy Call” in response to the recent drama involving Young Money artist Drake. On the track, J disses Diddy and Birdman.
